Carita Shawchuck, Ph.D., is the owner and founder of Child and Family Therapy Associates. Dr. Shawchuck is a clinical child and adolescent psychologist with over 24 years of experience. She works with preschool and school aged children, as well as adolescents, and their families. Dr. Shawchuck has extensive experience working with children and teens with a wide range of emotional, behavioral and medical issues. She is experienced in treating anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, tic disorders, depression, ADHD, autism, and adjustment to chronic and acute medical problems. Dr. Shawchuck also enjoys working with families of children with disruptive problems, and particularly enjoys partnering with parents of young children in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT). PCIT is a parent-child interaction-focused therapy, which teaches parenting skills to reduce disruptive behavior problems, including noncompliance with parent requests, aggression, hyperactivity and impulsivity. Dr. Shawchuck also provides psychological assessments for Autism Spectrum Disorders, ADHD, mood, anxiety and other emotional/behavioral disorders.
Dr. Shawchuck received her doctorate in Clinical Psychology, Clinical Child track from West Virginia University, Morgantown, WV. She completed her internship in Pediatric Psychology in the Department of Pediatrics and Human Development, College of Human Medicine, Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI. Prior to moving to Fargo in l996 she practiced as a Pediatric Psychologist at Children’s Hospital St. Paul, MN, where she experienced great fulfillment working with children with cancer and a variety of other chronic and acute medical conditions. In her free time, Dr. Shawchuck enjoys volunteering, reading, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.
